A person working at Xiaoshan International Airport in Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, China told China Daily that a glowing object appeared in the sky around the city around 20:30 on 7/7 but it was again does not appear on the radar screen. The airport closed at 2045 for security reasons and returned about an hour later. Dozens of incoming flights had to be diverted to two neighboring airports, and six domestic flights had to be delayed between 3 and 4 hours.

"We have not made any conclusions about strange objects ," Xinhua quoted Wang Jian, air traffic control director of the China Civil Aviation Administration in Zhejiang Province.

Many newspapers claim that strange objects may be a private plane because there are many people own private aircraft in Zhejiang Province. But Mr. Wang did not confirm this.

China Daily earlier quoted a source saying that the flying object was related to the Chinese military. Earlier this month, the Chinese navy rehearsed to shoot live bullets in the east sea, off Zhejiang Province.

An unnamed official from the China Civil Aviation Administration said this was the first time an airport in the country had stopped working because of an unidentified flying object.

Zhu Dayi, an expert working at the Shanghai Observatory, said the glowing object could be the light below reflecting on a very high flying plane. He said such phenomena usually occur about an hour after sunset.

"If the speed of the object glows very high, it could be a military aircraft. But no conclusions can be made at the present time, because the information we have is too little." Zhu said.
