Many watermelon fields in a village in Jiangsu Province, China, though not using stimulant chemicals, have been exploded.

These farmers planted watermelon seeds imported from Japan, and since the beginning of the month, there have been about 10 watermelon fields of households exploding.

According to farmer Liu Mingsuo, more than two-thirds of his watermelons were blown up. Liu said he used chemicals to stimulate watermelon growth on May 6, and the next day, about 180 melons were exploded.

Mr. Wang Dehong, a man who has planted melons for 20 years in the village, does not understand why his melon fields do not use any chemicals but also explode. Agricultural experts investigating the case cannot give an explanation. They argue that unusual weather is also an important factor.

So far, China has approved the use of chemicals to grow within the prescribed level. Tests show that these chemicals are still in safe levels.

However, when people are increasingly concerned about food safety, experts believe that it is necessary to introduce in detail each stage of the food production process to the public and ensure food safety.
