According to the Department of Animal Health, since the beginning of the year, bird flu has appeared in 63 communes and wards of 37 districts and districts in 23 provinces and cities across the country. The total number of infected, dead and destroyed poultry was over 75,000; which is mainly duck.

Compared to 2009, the number of provinces with higher epidemics appears, of which 11 provinces appear epidemic in two consecutive years; The number of infected, dead and culled birds is lower.

The cause of epidemic outbreaks as today is due to the local authorities and people still subjective, neglecting in the prevention and control of epidemics, not strictly implementing the prevention and control of epidemics; coordination between authorities and functional sectors in epidemic prevention is still weak, many poultry flocks are not vaccinated.

The transport of illegal poultry across the border has not been thoroughly controlled. In addition, small and unfocused livestock practices also make it difficult for the organization and prevention of epidemics.

At the conference, a representative of the Department of Animal Health warned that the average rate of duck flocks circulating avian influenza virus was 4.2% on average, meaning that bird flu could occur at any time, meanwhile. This year, poultry production has increased rapidly to 16%, making the risk of outbreaks higher than every year.

In order to avoid the epidemic spread, Deputy Minister Diep Kinh Tan reminded localities and specialized agencies to absolutely not be subjective, quickly review, consolidate and maintain the operation of the Steering Committee for epidemic prevention and control. levels. In particular, the drastic implementation of bird flu vaccination in the second phase, accelerating the monitoring of early detection of outbreaks to encircle and handle drastically, not to spread the epidemic.
