The image of a rare Tatu has just been recorded by scientists in a wetland area in central Brazil.
This is a rare Tatu species 1.5m long and weighing up to 50kg, twice the usual size of other Tatu species.
Giant Tatu is distributed mainly in primeval forests near South American water sources. However, they are unevenly distributed, always live in underground caves and operate at night, so information and images of this species are always a challenge for scientists.
Researchers from the Royal Scottish Animal Association (RZSS) took 10 weeks to constantly search for the giant mammal at the largest wetland adjacent to Brazil, Bolivia and Paraguay.
The images collected will help scientists assess somewhat the state of Tatu giant in Brazil.
