According to archaeologists, the 30m-long wooden ship discovered in 1987 contains about 60,000-80,000 precious artifacts, including many goods made of silver and ceramics."The ship's cargo compartment is quite intact and the objects are diverse , " the International Business Times quoted Liu Chengji at the Maritime Silk Road Museum in Yangjiang, Guangdong, 2,300 kilometers from Beijing.

It was built between 1127 - 1279 under the Song Dynasty, the ship sank due to rough seas during the storm in the sea off Duong Giang. Some items on the ship bear the names of shops and locations, reflecting the commercial economy developed during that time.

Archaeologists also discovered personal jewelry such as bracelets, necklaces and rings."These items show that the ship carries many merchants and passengers," said Sun Jian, a researcher at the Chinese Cultural Heritage Agency.

The Nam Hai 1 shipwreck was salvaged from the seabed in 2007. This is the biggest discovery in the history of maritime archeology in China. The position of the ship was found 20 miles west of Hailing Island of Duong Giang to the west. The ship was 25 m from the water and covered with mud.
