Graves containing more than 20 bodies of cow mummies were found in the ancient Saqqara cemetery more than 100 years ago. Dr. Bettany Hughes described the enormous scale of the underground cemetery in the documentary "Egypt's Greatest Treasures" on Channel 5.
The Saqqara Cemetery dates from 1350 BC during the reign of Amenhotep III, the ninth pharaoh of the 18th Dynasty. This area not only houses human mummies, but also contains 8 million dogs and 4 million bodies. stork, thousands of cats, crocodiles and many other animals. In particular, in the cemetery there are 24 coffins weighing 90 tons each attracted the attention of French archaeologist Auguste Mariette when he discovered Saqqara in 1850.

"What you see here is the biggest coffin. It is made of solid granite and weighs about 90 tons. You will ask yourself what kind of animal is buried in a coffin like this , " he said . Hughes said.
After opening the lid of the coffin with dynamite, archaeologists were shocked to see the object inside."All the coffins were stolen, but later Mariette and his colleagues realized that there was an intact coffin. They discovered extremely large mummified cow mummies , " Dr Hughes said.
According to Dr. Hughes, cows were the central animal in ancient Egyptian culture. Worshiped cows, considered by the Egyptians to be supernatural creatures with lots of magic. They have a special diet and even have multiple sex partners.
