By the early 19th century, the catacombs of the Chase family became the focus of public attention when strange and unexplained incidents occurred. Specifically, in August 1812, Thomas Chase died and was buried in the family crypt. However, when opening the tomb to bring the coffin containing Thomas Chase's corpse inside, it was discovered that the shocking incident was that the inside coffins were moved .

The coffins were moved even though no one broke in.

Metal coffins rotated far away from the time when they were inside the tomb. Inside the tomb, there are no signs of disturbance, which proves that the intruders will not be destroyed.

Accordingly, the family reorganized the coffins to the old position and reinforced the entrance to the catacombs so that the same incident did not occur. However, in 1816, 11-year-old Charles Brewster Ames died and was buried in the family crypt. This time, the coffins were in a different position as before.

A similar incident in 1819 led the Barbados authorities to investigate an attempt to solve the mystery. However, all their efforts were fruitless. No one can explain why the coffins could teleport in the Chase family catacombs .

Because the solution could not be found, the authorities finally decided to bring all the coffins out and then carry out separate burials at the island's cemetery.
