Mary's mother died of natural causes. According to the Dormition of Theotokos, she died while sleeping in Jersusalem. The age when she died has not been clarified. However, some affirmative records, like Jesus Christ, Mary also resurrected and on the third day after death, her soul and body flew to heaven. Her grave is completely empty three days after the funeral.
In the 5th century, historian Cyril of Scythopolis recorded in Euthymiaca Historia that Emperor Marcian and Queen Pulcheria questioned the remains of Mary. Head of Jerusalem, Juvenal, answered no remains because Mary left the grave three days after her funeral.

Since Christianity began to become popular, the grave is believed to belong to the Blessed Mother Mary to become a sacred place. In 1972, Bellarmino Bagatti, Francis archaeologist and priest, unearthed the tomb. Bagatti said the burial site was an ancient cemetery dating back to the 1st century and could bury the Biblical heroes.
The team discovered three burial vaults and Bagatti identified the grave as the place where Mary was buried. However, scientists are not sure about the date of these tunnels. The dating is based on the original structure of the grave which is difficult because all the Biblical tombs (from 1004 BC to 70) are the same.
The tomb in Jerusalem is widely accepted by scholars as the true burial place of Our Lady of Mary, but this is not her only burial place. Another theory is that she rests in Turkmenistan, at a place called Mary or Mari.
