The more breakfast, the easier it is to lose weight

Breakfast has long been honored as the most important meal of the day, especially for those who want to lose weight. Now scientists also prove that the bigger the breakfast, the more weight loss.

New research shows that women who eat half the calories during the day at breakfast will lose more weight than those who eat only a small amount. They are also less likely to gain weight again.

The reason is that eating a meal full of protein and carbohydrates will reduce craving for sweets or starchy foods, as well as promote metabolism.

Researchers at Caracas, Venezuela's Clinicas Hospital, learned how breakfast habits affect the weight of 100 obese women. All are fed a low-calorie and low-carbohydrate diet. But half eat a big breakfast, accounting for nearly half of the day's calories. The other half had little breakfast.

When halfway through the study (4 months), women who ate small breakfast fell an average of 12 kg, 2.2 kg more than the rest. But the results don't just stop there. After 8 months, those who ate breakfast had an average increase of 8 kg, while those who ate a big breakfast continued to lose weight and lost another 7.5 kg.

By the end of the study, those who ate a lot of breakfast lost more than 21% of their total weight, compared with only 4.5% in other women. People who eat a lot also say they feel less hungry, especially before lunch and less craving for sweets.

Researcher Daniela Jakubowicz said that diets that merely limit carbohydrates do not work because it does not reduce the craving for high-calorie foods. In addition, skipping breakfast makes the body lacking in substance and leads to more storage at lunch and dinner. Eating half the calories during the day during breakfast also helps the body have time to digest food efficiently.
