The public is surprised that the torch cream does not melt in China
According to AFP, videos have been circulating showing that the ice cream of Zhong Xue Gao, also known as Chicecream (China) remains solid when lit on fire, even when using a torch.
An ice cream brand in China known as "Hermes ice cream" has been criticized after internet users said some of its products do not melt, even when using a torch.
Cream of Zhong Xue Gao
According to AFP news agency, videos have been circulating showing that the ice cream of Zhong Xue Gao, also known as Chicecream (China) is still frozen when set on fire. This product does not melt completely when left in a temperature of 31 degrees Celsius for one hour or under a very hot flame.
Expensive Chinese ice cream is tested to a temperature of 31 degrees Celsius.
After 20 minutes, the ice cream still did not melt like other regular ice cream.
These videos have amazed internet users. They questioned whether the company's products contained too many additives. Zhong Xue Gao's most expensive product costs 66 yuan (10 USD).
However, on July 6, the company confirmed that its products were in compliance with national food safety regulations.
"We believe it is unscientific to judge the quality of ice cream by baking, drying or heating it," Zhong Xue Gao said in a Weibo post that attracted more than 168,000 likes.
Zhong Xue Gao's non-melting ice cream
AFP news agency said it could not verify the videos and it was not clear what stabilizers were used in the ice cream. Stabilizers are food additives used to preserve texture, are commonly used in large-scale ice cream production, and have been approved for widespread use by the US Food and Drug Administration.
Wang Silu, a senior Chinese food inspector, also said products used to thicken ice cream are safe.
Zhong Xue Gao has promoted itself as a Chinese ice cream brand replacing Western brands such as Magnum and Haagen-Dazs. They use supposedly natural ingredients and feature locally inspired product designs.
