SMK Group (Japan) has just introduced a battery-free remote TV controller design.

This controller uses magnetic induction coils, gears with a large gear ratio, a power circuit and an infrared light emitting element .

When the user presses the lever on the controller, the coil will spin at high speed based on the gear drive.

The magnetic induction of the coil will generate energy to perform some transitions in the power circuit before activating the LED.

SMK's battery-free remote controller was introduced at the TEXPO 2008 exhibition on 4-6-2008

The coil will then generate an electrical current of about 20-30 mA that can transmit the signal with a distance of several meters with infrared.

On this controller there are also function keys to change the channel, turn off or turn on the TV, adjust the volume .

Currently SMK researchers are seeking to optimize the infrared transmitter and power circuitry in this device for future products.
