The secret of long life of African mole?
The African hairless mole (scientific name Heterocephalus glaber) is very small but can live for 26 years or more, and the most special thing is that they can still reproduce at a very old age.
The African hairless mole (scientific name Heterocephalus glaber ) is very small but can live for 26 years or more, and the most special thing is that they can still reproduce at a very old age.
Animal behavioral researcher, Professor Paul Sherman of Cornell University, New York (USA), tried to find the answer to this and he gave an explanation: African hairless moles have life. Social life is like an insect, usually settling into large groups in the cave deep beneath the ground.
Their leader is a mole and there is only 'queen' to reproduce. Based on the large numbers, mole rats can protect the nest from the attack of other animals, allowing the herd to live safely, so they live for a long time, possibly up to 26 years.
On average every year, the leading 'queen' mole can produce 100 animals and so on until it is at least 20 years old. A number of other factors also contribute to the increase in the life of this mole rat, not to mention that the rate of metabolism in their bodies is very low, helping to reduce the oxidation process (cell destruction process).
