About 75% of the Vietnamese population has oral maxillary convex tumors, the majority are benign but some are at low risk of oral cancer.

For more than a year, Tra (28 years old) appeared protruding lumps, ruptured on the upper jaw and diagnosed with protruding teeth , without treatment. The feeling of swallowing became increasingly affected, she went to check.

Dr. Tran Minh Thieu at Trung Vuong Hospital said that the benign oral cavity is also known as the femoral protrusion or the torus and the lower jaw torus. This is not considered a pathological change, but when it grows too large, it affects chewing, swallowing and obstructing orthopedic prosthetic treatment.

According to Dr. Thieu, the proportion of Vietnamese people with torus is quite high. Genetic causes account for 70% with factors such as humanity, gender, and family. The environment accounts for 30% of the reasons for disease.

Torus upper jaw is a common deformity of the femoral bone, often appearing and developing after the age of 30 or earlier, after years of development, stop development. According to the dental jaw statistics, in Vietnam 75% of the population has torus upper jaw in the mouth. The percentage of female torus in female is 73%, higher than male. The position of the upper jaw torus is often found in the middle of the mouthpiece.

The incidence of lower jaw torus is lower, accounting for 3.6% of the population. This rate is 4.8% for men, 3% for women. Moreover, the male has just had torus and has a lower torus with double the ratio of female. For the lower jaw torus, the most common position is the position on the face of the tongue opposite the small molar area. Torus the most common lower jaw is on the sides, symmetrical. The case of one side torus is also not rare.

According to Dr. Thieu, most cases of femoral protrusion do not require treatment. Surgery is indicated when the lump is too large to occupy the space of the tongue or when the denture is worn, the back of the tongue touches the denture causing vomiting. The surgery only diminished but still preserved torus's shape. Surgery in concave cases causes food accumulation under the denture to lead to chronic inflammation, making the patient uncomfortable .

In some cases, femoral protrusion is likely to be associated with oral cancer. When lesions appear ulcerative bleeding should be examined. Do not smoke, do not chew betel nuts, perform oral hygiene.
