A woman participates in the "lying" experiment
There will one day female astronauts set foot on Mars. At that time, they would have to remember 24 volunteer women who had been lying in bed for two months for scientists to study the stamina of people in multi-day flights into space.
Two groups of women (12 people each) from eight European countries participated in the project called WISE. During the 60 days of experimental participation, these volunteers tightened their activities on the individual bed placed at a 6-degree angle and their heads were lower than their feet. This uncomfortable posture will lead to physiological changes in the body but similar to what astronauts suffer in zero gravity.
At the end of the 'long-term' period (November 30), the experimental women had to undergo medical tests and 'rehabilitation' until December 20. But today (December 13), they will appear in the press conference to introduce the initial success of the study.
The results of the study will be published after the analysis is complete, but scientists think they are significant for the study of space because it helps to better understand the role of nutrition and physical activity to counteract the negative effects of zero gravity on the human body during long flights.
