USD 3 million for additional measles vaccination campaign

In 2007-2008, the Ministry of Health organized an additional measles vaccination campaign for 17 Northern mountainous provinces with about 3 million injections.

On July 23, Dr. Do Si Hien - Chairman of the Expanded Immunization Program (EPI), said that there was an increase in the number of measles vaccination campaigns due to measles.

In the past 3 years, measles occurs in the age group of more than 15 years, in some mountainous, remote, isolated and difficult areas where measles outbreaks occur in many years with medium and large scale as in Lai. Chau, Dien Bien, Lao Cai . Meanwhile, the situation of measles in the delta provinces and cities continues to decline.

The reason is that many children in the northern mountainous provinces in the age of vaccination are neglected and the quality of the injection is not up to standard.

Funding for the campaign is over US $ 3 million funded by the World Health Organization (WHO), including US $ 1 million to buy vaccines. The remaining amount to organize the vaccination work, propagating to the people about the benefits of additional measles vaccination.

Accordingly, there will be 13 provinces deploying the whole province, namely Cao Bang, Bac Can, Thai Nguyen, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, Yen Bai, Son La, Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Hoa Binh, Lao Cai, Bac Giang and Lang Son. .

The four provinces deployed in some high-risk districts are Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Thanh Hoa and Quang Ninh. In 2008, the campaign will be deployed in a number of other provinces in the Central region and Central Highlands. The campaign began to be implemented from September to December 2007.

It is known that the four provinces of Ha Giang, Dien Bien, Lai Chau and Lao Cai will vaccinate those aged from 1 to 20 years old, other localities will give injections to people from 6-20 years old.
