Using paper cups of hot water is dangerous

If you do not want the toxin from the plastic ingredients in the paper cup, experts recommend not to use this cup of drinks over 40 degrees C.

Different types of disposable paper cups and plates are popular for convenience. However, they all have plastic components or are coated with an external waterproof plastic. If not handled well, this plastic layer is easy to use when using cups at high temperatures.

According to engineer Nguyen Kim Hue, Cellulose and Paper Industry Institute, there are two main types of paper used to make disposable paper cups and plates, which are paper coated with waterproof plastic and water-proof paper.

Waterproofed plastic paper is usually produced by thin-layer emulsion injection technology on paper, then transferred to the curing or heating process to attach the paper and plastic layers together. Therefore, although the paper of this cup may be less durable, but because of the plastic cover, it can withstand water.

Chemicals in paper cups can be removed if the drinks are high temperature.

There are many types of plastic used as this covering. Advanced countries mainly use PE plastic, while, according to engineer Hue, in Vietnam, the main plastic used is PVC. Which production facility uses good plastic and glue layer, the processing process ensures quality standards, when used, the cup will be less likely to peel, sun plastic and stop these chemicals. In the opposite case, the risk of colloids, resins and mixed pulp will be severed, popping up and mixing with food will be quite large, especially in high temperature conditions.

Some cups are made from paper with a mixture of waterproof additives. This type of paper is manufactured on technology that uses glue containing melamine, urea or phenol, as a strong waterproofing additive. These substances have weft, round, curved circuits that prevent water. Therefore, pulp will not dissolve in normal conditions such as hot water temperature of about 40-70 degrees C.

Engineer Nguyen Kim Hue, Dr. Nguyen Gia Dien (Institute of Chemistry) said that the use of paper cups in advanced countries has become a consumer style for decades. Paper cups can be used for both hot and cold water. For this purpose, the cup making materials must ensure strict standards of quality of paper, plastic, additives . If the production process as well as input materials is not guaranteed, the convenience is negligible. compared to adverse health effects.

However, the problem related to health disadvantages is not only in production facilities but also in consumers themselves. Cups and plates after disposable look still very new, so many people take away to use a few more times, leading to the risk of chemical contamination of paper cups. Because of reuse, pulp and glue, plastic, chemicals will be mixed into food and drink. Paper cups for long-term humidity are also a reservoir of germs and bacteria that cause disease.
