VMware provides free version for server
VMware is the well-known VMware software maker that allows users to use multiple operating systems on their computers recently announced that it will provide a free version of VMware Server.
VMware Server is a free alternative to VMware GSX, which previously paid users up to $ 1400 to get a GSX Server version for dual processors and $ 2800 for multi-processor systems. VMware ESX is more expensive depending on user requirements and can handle more advanced features. One of these features is that GSX Server requires to operate under an operating system such as Windows. And ESX Server can operate without operating system.
This is seen as a new method of VMware to attract users to access their software and next are additional options for it as well as other commercial versions. Therefore, VMware will expand its market share in the software market compared to competitors. Moreover, users will tend to upgrade from the free GSX Server version to the ESX Server version to get more advanced features.
Virtual software will become part of Novell's Red Hat Enterprise Linux and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server in a successive version of these operating systems. Microsoft also plans to add this technology to LongHorn Server.
VMware Server joins VMware Player on the list of free applications provided by VMware Inc. Reference information and download the free version here.
