Every two hours sitting in front of the screen every day, the risk of dying before age 65 increased by 13%, according to the Harvard School of Public Health study, posted on the Telegraph page today.

That's because motionlessness increases the incidence of type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

According to experts, watching TV makes us lose health in two ways: First of all, it is taking up the time of entertainment that is healthy (needing movement). Second, people tend to eat fast food and drink soft drinks when watching movies.

Writing in American Medical Association today, researcher Frank Hu and colleagues say that "watching TV is the most common static activity and is everywhere " in Western society. Europeans spend an average of 3 hours a day watching, Australians are 4 hours and Americans are 5 hours.

The conclusion comes after the research team re-examined the previous eight works, tracking over hundreds of thousands of people over the past several decades, from 1970 to 2011.

Specifically, with two hours of television viewing every day, the risk of type 2 diabetes increases by 20%, and the risk of cardiovascular disease increases by 15%.

Frank Hu said : "Our message is very simple. Reducing the time to watch TV can significantly reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and premature death."
