According to experts, WiBro (Wireless Broadband - a mobile broadband Internet technology developed by the Korean Telecommunications Industry) is in danger. According to Samsung Electronics, they will be able to attract 3.5 million WiBro subscribers worldwide by the end of 2006, however, they only have 1,057 subscribers in the domestic market since the launch of the WiBro service.
According to SK Telecom: ' We commercialized the WiBro service in June 2006 with an investment of 170 billion won, but we only added 151 subscribers '. In addition, KT Telecom only attracted 906 subscribers after investing an additional 450 billion won. The reason WiBro failed was because operators did not believe in the success of WiBro, so they refused to use the service. Therefore, the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) Korea and Samsung Electronic are being criticized.
Prior to the launch of the WiBro service, MIC revealed that the service would create a value of 13 trillion won in production and 10 trillion won in added value.
