Research by US scientists in mice showed that a compound in the apple shell called ursolic acid may slow down this rodent weight gain despite being fed a high-fat diet.

In the study, rats were given a high-fat diet and supplemented with ursolic acid.

As a result, mice fed this diet had developed muscle mass and brown fat - a good fat that helps burn more calories than mice that do not have this diet.

The study also found that rats consuming ursolic acid gained weight slowly and had little chance of developing prediabetes, fatty liver disease compared to mice that did not consume the compound.

Dr. Christopher Adams, professor of internal medicine at the University of Iowa (USA), said: 'However, we still cannot explain why ursolic acid can affect brown fat'. .

According to foxnews, scientists have not tested this compound on human bodies, so it is not known if this compound is really beneficial to humans.

Dr Adams said: 'We will have a follow-up study to determine if the ursolic acid compound can help obese and diabetic patients'.

The study was published in PLoS ONE June 20.
