Valence Technology's U-Charge Power System
Almost immediately after, CNET announced that a company developed a safer battery: Valence Technology's U-Charge Power System. This battery uses cathode phosphate metal instead of cobalt oxide like lithium-ion batteries today. Although the power is only about 75% of lithium-ion batteries, it is much safer.
The U-Charge Power System is currently only used primarily for wheelchairs, but Valence Technology is quite optimistic about applying it to laptops.
