Your nose will shrink when lying

Dr. Emilio Gómez Milán of the University of Granada, Spain, said that when a person's nose when lying lies will shrink, not long as in the story of the boy Pinocchio.

When a person lies, the nose shrinks and the tip of the nose drops by about 1.2 degrees C while the forehead increases by 1.5 degrees C.

Emilio's team conducted an experiment that lied over 60 volunteers. They must call their parents or relatives and lie for 3 to 4 minutes. In the meantime, the volunteer's body is continuously scanned with infrared thermal technology.

As a result, the researchers found that when people were dishonest, the temperature of the tip of the nose was reduced by 1.2 degrees C while the forehead increased by 1.5 degrees C.

Dr. Emilo explains when we lie, the temperature around the nose decreases and a brain element called an insula is activated. Insula is a component of the brain system involved in detecting and regulating body temperature. It only activates when we experience true emotions.

"This phenomenon has caused the human nose to shrink. The change is quite small, so the naked eye is hard to recognize," Emilio said.

Infrared thermal technology has detected temperature changes in 80% of the participants. This method is more accurate than lie detectors, which helps scientists minimize errors when performing experiments, Dr. Emilio said.
