50,000 year old jewelry made from ostrich eggshell

Russian archaeologists discovered 50,000-year-old jewelry made from ostrich egg shells in a cave in Siberia.

Archaeological group at the Institute of Archeology and Ethnology, Novosibirsk, Russia, discovered jewelry dating back to 50,000 years ago made from ostrich egg shells in Denisova cave, in the Altai Mountains, region Siberia, Russia, International Business Times on November 1 reported.

Jewelry is created by drilling a hole through a small circular eggshell. They can be beads on a necklace chain, bracelet or used to attach clothes. According to the Siberian Times, pieces of eggshell are fairly uniform with a width of less than one centimeter, in the middle is a hole about a millimeter wide.

"Our group is quite happy to find these objects. Ostrich eggshells are quite hard materials, so small holes in the eggshell must be created with a sharp rock drill , " Maksim Kozlikin, city. Archaeologist group member, said.

This finding shows that prehistoric people who lived in the Paleolithic era had developed ingenious skills before entering the Neolithic period, starting about 12,000 years ago.

The elaborate eggshell was also found in Border Cave, South Africa. They date to about 44,000 years old and carry some similarities with the seeds of Denisova Cave.

Hang Denisova has an average annual temperature of 0 degrees Celsius, which helps preserve human artifacts and fossils well. Neanderthals, Denisova and Homo sapiens used this cave for at least 288,000 years. Archaeologists conduct many excavations at the cave during the past 30 years.
