To build this memory module, the Korean DRAM maker said it has used FB-DIMM, a new technology widely accepted in the memory industry. It can process data twice as fast as current R-DIMMs and allow manufacturers to combine AMB cache chips with other memory chips.

Samsung's new circuit board is suitable for thin blade servers. Samsung will release a series of 512 MB to 8 GB products to dominate from the outset in the emerging FB-DIMM market.

The price and the official launch date of the product have yet to be revealed. Chipmaker Intel also announced it will release the FB-DIMM model for the server next year.

Research firm Gartner predicts the worldwide DRAM server market will reach $ 24.1 billion in 2006.
