The surgery is extremely complicated, lasting more than 12 hours with the participation of 80 doctors and nurses. This is the case where the twins are conjoined from the lower chest to the pelvis and conjoined in some organs such as the liver, genitals and colon.
Once separated from the twins, the surgeons continued to work all night to recreate the chest wall and pelvic area of the patient. Currently, the health status of the two babies has stabilized and the doctors said that in the future 2 babies will be able to walk on their own without the aid of tools.
Retana and Regina were born in America when her parents visited Mexico from Los Angeles. The survival rate of conjoined twins is only 5 - 25%. History has recorded about 600 conjoined twins survived in the last 500 years with more than 70% of cases both are female.
