America Online (AOL) has patched a relatively dangerous vulnerability in its client software, which has allowed hackers to take advantage of it to run unauthorized software on computers.

According to AOL, the flaw concerns an ActiveX driver in AOL's YGP image finder. This vulnerability could be exploited by hackers and take control of the computer system by tricking users into accessing a special website created by them. Some versions have this vulnerability including AOL 8.0, 8.0+ and 9.0 Classic.

Although the new vulnerability was revealed on January 16, security researchers discovered and informed AOL a few months ago. However, AOL spokesman said they also provided the patch from the end of last year and if users haven't patched the flaw, download the patch here to fix the flaw.
