Apple patches serious security in QuickTime

Apple Computer recommends that users should quickly install the patch to fix serious security errors in QuickTime.

Security update for QuickTime to fix a total of 7 serious security bugs in this multimedia application was officially released by Apple Computer yesterday.

The security issues fixed by Apple this time affect both the QuickTime version running on the Windows and Mac OS X platforms.

Most of these security bugs are related to QuickTime being unable to correctly handle certain file format standards such as H.264, QuickTime, FLC, FlashPix and SGI. An attacker can create a malicious file of one of the standard formats and trick the user into opening it. If you open the malicious file, it will cause paralysis of QuickTime, enabling an attacker to take over the control of the system.

This was also confirmed by security firm Symantec in a warning message sent to its customers: " Successful exploitation of this security vulnerability could allow an attacker to gain full control of the system. make a mistake ".

However, there has not been any malicious code that could exploit the security flaw that is distributed online, Symantec said.

Users can download the update to install or proceed to upgrade QuickTime to version 7.1.3.
