DDR3 standard - a new step to 64 bit computing -

JEDEC's Double Data Rate 3 memory technology has been approved by the JEDEC association, which promises to bring about major improvements in performance and energy savings compared to DDR1 and DDR2 standards.

DDR3 will be the standard for SDRAM with only 1.5 volt power used while DDR1 is 1.8 volts and DDR2 is 2.5 volts. In addition, it demonstrates the superiority of 'predecessor' DDR2 whenever it needs to process a large amount of input / output data from memory.

Expert Joe Macri of AMD said: ' DDR3 is the pinnacle of collaboration between memory, system, component and module manufacturers. This standard allows new devices to achieve more performance and storage, meeting the needs of the multimedia world with smart electronic products . '

The expected DDR3 standard will have 800 - 1,600 MT / sec performance (millions of data exchanges per second), increasing the power of RAM in computers, mobile phones . and is an important development step to computing 64 bit.

DDR3 will also be a key factor in future mobile platforms as well as applications such as video on demand, coding and decoding techniques, 3D games, virtualization .
