American scientists discovered new squid fish, a rare creature often called the ocean monster, living in very dark waters and scary shapes.

The new squid fish was discovered in the Gulf of Mexico bottom

The new squid fish has the scientific name Lasiognathus dinema . Nova Southeastern University team found them in dark water in the northern Gulf of Mexico, below a depth of 1,000-1,500 m. Three studied females have a length of less than 10 cm.

According to the description of expert Tracey Sutton, Lasiognathus squid fish has wide mouth and many irregular spikes. They look quite different from the previously discovered scales, which have a slightly round and stout shape.

Under deep water, the fish uses the glowing ability from the "fishing rod" that grows on the head to attract prey and pull them close to the mouth. When the prey swims close, they quickly use their large mouth to suck and grip with long, pointed teeth.

Scientists say that under a depth of more than 1,000 meters, the water is cold and dark as ink, sunlight cannot shine and no plants grow. The only light source is made of fish that have bioluminescence. In this environment, organisms that exist based on organic sediments sink to the bottom and compete for food very harshly.
