Researchers from San Marcos University have collaborated with American colleagues from Brigham Young University, saying that despite years of confusion, so far, through analyzing molecular and ecological morphology and other details have identified these as new species. Two new species of lizards are named after the ancient Andea civilizations of Chavin and Wari , the third species named after the once Incan rulers, Pachacutec.

Liolaemus pachacutec is found in Pisac, a ruins once built by Pachacutec. The species Liolaemus chavin is found in the area near the center of Chavin culture, where there are many reptile and reptilian animals and animals.
