Discovered stone statues bearing male and female sex symbols under the Indian river

The dry weather in December caused a sharp drop in the water level of the Shalmala River, Karnataka, India, revealing thousands of stone statues Linga and Yoni, male and female sexual symbols of Hinduism.

According to Ancient Origins, the Shalmala river basin is called Sahasralinga, meaning "thousands of Shiva Linga" because there are many Linga statues engraved on the rock in the river.

On the December Mahastrashivaratri holiday every year, Hindus gather in this area to worship Shiva. This is the right time to perform the ceremony because the water level is quite low, we can see the whole Linga and Yoni.

According to Sott.net, each Linga statue has a Nandi statue . Researchers are not clear about the authors of these Linga statues as well as when they were born. One theory is that Sirsi's king Sadashivaraya built these stone statues during his reign in 1678 - 1718.

In Hinduism, Shiva is joined by Brahma and Vishnu. Legend has it that, during a skirmish between Brahma and Vishnu, Shiva transformed into a giant Linga. The day of Shiva incarnating Linga is called Mahastrashivaratri day . On this day, Hindu believers will fast all day and pray at night. They hope Shiva will bring them prosperity and happiness.
