According to Iran's Fars news agency, rescuers were sent to the affected areas of the Kerman province earthquake. Many residents had to leave their homes in Kerman City and neighboring villages and towns due to fears of continuing the earthquake after about 30 aftershocks that shook the area.

Meanwhile, Tasnim reported that authorities have camped for tents, food and water to support people in the affected areas of the earthquake.

The US Geological Survey Center (USGS) said the epicenter of the quake was located 10km deep, 58km from the city of Kerman, where more than 821,000 people live in the northeast.

The quake struck two weeks after the 7.3-magnitude earthquake hit more than 500 people and injured thousands in the western province of Kermanshah, bordering Iraq.
