According to the Yomiuri Shimbun, researchers at Tohoku University have experimented in animals and confirmed plasmides, found in some seafood species such as oysters and sea urchins that can prevent brain cells from being death - the cause of Alzheimer's disease.

Alzheimer's disease is a serious memory loss. Studies on the detection of plasmalogen levels in the brains of Alzheimer's patients have decreased by nearly 30%, although the role of this substance in Alzheimer's disease is still unclear.

In their study, scientists gave mice mice with Alzheimer's disease using plasmalogen and observed how they found food in a maze. The results showed that the memory impairment and learning ability in mice was significantly improved.

Apart from oysters and sea urchins, plasmalogen is also found in cow's brain, but people are afraid of the risk of mad cow disease if they eat this dish.

Researchers plan to commercialize plasmalogen-containing drugs extracted from seafood next year.
