However, according to new research by Dr. Fay Julal and colleagues at Southampton Solent University, women often choose not to be masculine as partners in a recession. Instead, they choose high-income men.
'Our research shows that external factors, such as economic degradation, can affect women's tendency to choose partners , ' said Dr. Fay Julal, head of the study. Live Science.
Economic downturns change the way women choose their partners
Scientists have been conducting research since the beginning of 2010 - a time of economic recession. They created biographies of men looking for online partners, with many different versions. Some versions depict the boy as manly and attractive, some describe the man who has a high income, simple job, or likes a partner who is successful, .
Later, 160 volunteer women looked at the biographies and evaluated whether they chose the man as a partner. Before looking at the information of men, volunteer women were asked to do a financial-related language test, whose goal was to make the notion of recession appear in their minds.
The results show that this group tends to choose the highest income men. Although volunteer women are students who study professions that have the potential to earn high-income jobs.
In a short period of time, the scientists explained, women tend to choose men who are more financially capable than men who are strong and masculine like evolution. This can happen during the economic downturn.
