Giving bigger eggs thanks to the sexy song

A recent study revealed that females alter egg sizes, and possibly the sex of the chicks, when they hear a guy's sweet love song.

Male canaries train their voices not only to flirt with the female, but its charming chirping can do more.

Canaries. A recent study revealed that female birds alter the size of eggs, and possibly the sex of the chicks, when they hear a sweet love song of a guy.

The team from the Max Planck Institute for ornithology in Germany and the University of London distributed a series of love songs for male canaries (from the melodies that are considered sexy to less attractive) for 45 birds. Canary yang has been tamed. As a result, the more attractive the song is, the bigger the eggs are laid.

In nature, big eggs are more likely to produce males, but the researchers found no difference in the sex ratio in the herd when the females heard different melodies. Because sexy songs produce larger eggs, but are not males, the scientific team assumes that canary mothers can affect their gender not only in a single way.
