"The amount of waste in schools is increasing, garbage collection is not yet systematic. On the other hand, during the summer break, students often find hallways and halls to play, but must suffering from the sun " , Nguyen Van Thanh, the team leader shared the idea of ​​Green School model.

Since then, the research team has a plan to solve waste in schools and increase greenery area, save costs for investors and still ensure the quality of the project. The group took advantage of school waste as a plastic bottle combined with greenery.

The group handles products from plastic bottles to plant trees at locations frequently exposed to sunshine such as roofs of buildings, corridors to create an airy space while keeping the air moist in hot weather. . Trees help regulate the climate and increase the aesthetics of buildings.

The project also has an automatic irrigation system that does not need human help, saves effort time and the amount of excess water flowing outside causes dirt. This system operates without electricity, with a different adjustment mode according to the season.

"With the greening scheme, the project will filter harmful substances in the air, because the green roof not only absorbs the temperature, reduces the climate fluctuation but also filters the air layers through it , " Thanh said.

Thanh said, if the project is applied, it will save material costs, electricity from fans, air conditioners and cooling learning and working space.

When the Green School model at Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture will successfully apply in buildings in the city."The area of ​​greenery in the city is getting narrowed, the living environment is threatening, the project will contribute to increase the area of ​​greenery for urban areas, save electricity source , " Thanh said.

The group's research has been recognized by the British Council as one of six innovative awards for excellence in the environment. Thanh added, the group plans to implement the project in October 2011 and finish phase 1 in September 2012.
