Highway 60km long on the surface of the reservoir in China

The highway that runs through the regulating lake in Jiangxi Province is atop 17 bridges under water.

The special highway was built atop 17 bridges under water.

The 60km long section of the highway built on the turquoise water reservoir of Zhelin, located west of Lu Son Mountain in Jiangxi Province, China, reported on the Long Room on July 9. The route connects Vinh Tu and Vu Ninh districts, allowing drivers to move across the clear lake.

The special highway was built on top of 17 submerged bridges, along the curve of a large 24km ² reservoir and accommodating 8 billion cubic meters of water. The total length of Yongwu highway is 104km.

When starting construction of the highway in 2011, the authorities set up a strict monitoring system to prevent construction materials from affecting the environment. The quality of water and air in the area meets the national level 1 standard. A collection system is being used to filter waste such as oil, chemicals and contaminants that flow down from the road surface, avoiding lake water from contamination.
