HIV / AIDS testing for $ 1.65
Australian and US scientists have successfully researched fast and cheap "mobile" HIV / AIDS testing methods for just $ 1.65 for a test, TheAge, Australia said.

This method has the ability to monitor the development of HIV virus, thereby allowing doctors to know exactly when to apply the treatment for patients. Similar to testing in pregnant women, doctors only need to prick a blood sample and determine the number of CD4 cells. If the number of CD4 cells in the blood falls below the allowable level, the patient has turned to AIDS.
The research leader, Professor Suzanne Crowe, of the Burnet Institute, said the advantage of the new method is that it can be tested on-site in remote areas without the need for modern laboratory equipment. If applied universally, it will be of great benefit to poor and developing countries where people have less access to expensive CD4 testing services.
Currently, this new method has been tested in many US, British and Australian hospitals, which could be applied massively by the end of 2010. It is estimated that there are 33 million people worldwide infected with HIV / AIDS.
