Low invasive thyroid endoscopy, without scarring

In addition to the advantage of less invasive surgery, which does not affect the surrounding organs, this method has aesthetically responded: no scars, or scars can be hidden.

The disease includes a number of thyroid diseases ( such as inflammation, aneurysm, benign, cancer .) that affect physiological function, which can have serious consequences. The cause of the disease is the lack of iodine in the body. According to statistics, about 4-7% of Vietnamese people have clinical manifestations as mononuclear goiter, part of this is indicated for surgical surgical open surgery. This method only meets the needs of treatment, not the aesthetic factor because the incision will leave scars on the patient's neck. This causes patients to lose confidence, affecting their quality of life.

The method of thyroid endoscopic surgery meets both the treatment needs and the aesthetic factors of patients, but has not received much attention from oncologists in Vietnam. Even an expert on goiter said: " Not interested in the method of thyroid endoscopic surgery because this disease can be opened easily ". Up to now, in the South, only Gia Dinh People's Hospital has implemented this method in the condition of limited equipment.

Doctor Trinh Minh Tranh, Deputy Head of the Department of Chest and Urology - Urology, Gia Dinh People's Hospital is a person who has researched and put this technique into use.

" In large thyroid hospitals around the world, aesthetic standards are set on a par with the treatment point of view. Therefore, it is necessary to apply thyroid endoscopic surgery. A test shows that weak The first factor that a thyroid patient is concerned about when he is prescribed surgery is: do not want to have a scar, so after being explained they all want a laparoscopic surgery, "Dr. Tranh said.

Surgical endoscopic surgery is 1.5-2 cm, shorter than open surgery from 5 to 6 cm. Depending on the case, the doctor may move the skin to the neck area (chest, areola or armpit area). The average surgery time of an endoscopic operation is about 2 hours. The postoperative period averages about 4 days. There is faster than open surgery but not much.

There are two techniques for endoscopic surgery that have been applied: CO2 injection method and method of using lift frame. Each method has its own advantages and limitations, which are applied to each specific case with different medical conditions.

Dr. Tranh said, the success in surgery depends much on the experience of choosing the disease and the surgical experience. Therefore, although all patients want laparoscopic surgery because of its advantages, about 10 new patients have 1-2 designated people. Despite efforts, Gia Dinh People's Hospital has so far only performed laparoscopic surgery for cases of mononuclear tumors, 4 cm or less in diameter, and benign tumors.
