A car-mounted video camera happened to capture the image of the light of a meteorite in Peterborough, Ontario, 130km east of Toronto, on May 4. What is seen in the sky may be a fireball formed when a meteorite descends from above.
"Smoke and fire fell and caught fire. Did you see that steam? It was like something caught fire and then stopped" , Space quoted one of the witnesses as recounting.
This is the third time this phenomenon has been recorded in the past week. Previously, fireballs were observed in the states of Arkansas and North Carolina, USA, in two days 2 and 3/5.
To date, American meteorological research organization has recorded 84 cases of fireball detection. In some cases, people hear sounds simultaneously or after fireballs are seen in the sky.
On March 18, a massive glowing fireball phenomenon appeared and broke into several small meteorite fragments also observed in the province of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, in eastern Canada.
