This is a noble award, considered the Nobel Prize of the Spanish-Portuguese speaking community. The award ceremony is expected to take place in the Spanish city of Oviedo in October.

According to a VNA correspondent in Mexico, the same award with Buylla also has two other scientists from the US and Italy.

Mr. Buylla received the Prince of Asturias Award for his work on neuronal regeneration in the elderly brain (also known as neurogénesis) and discovered the "mirror" nerve that opened many possibilities. in the treatment of neurodegenerative phenomena in Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and autism. The 53-year-old scientist now lives and works in the United States.

Speaking to the press on May 26, scientist Buylla thanked for the support of the team of professors, doctors, researchers at the University of California - San Francisco (USA), where he conducted research. specialized in perennial mammalian nervous system and common cancer in these animals.

Buylla graduated from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) specialized in biochemistry in 1986. After two years, he worked as a doctoral dissertation at Rockefeller University (USA) and worked there. until 2000 before moving to research and teaching at the University of California - San Francisco. Previously, he had received the US scientific research award and many professional associations in Latin America and Europe.

The Prince of Asturias Award is an annual Spanish award given to individuals or organizations that have made great contributions to the advancement of science, humanities or international diplomacy in speaking countries. Spain-Portugal. This award was born in 1981 and is awarded annually in the city of Oviedo, the capital of Asturias.
