Microsoft said that the company will release the patch and give security flaws in the Windows operating system, which is being widely abused, as part of the next monthly security update cycle. Therefore, Microsoft advises users to wait to update the official security version.
The problem is that vulnerabilities in some versions of the Windows operating system allow hackers to take advantage of taking control of the computer through a Windows Metafile image file (.wmf format image format). When users open image files in .wmf format, the machine will run arbitrary code allowing full control of the user's computer system. The image files can be used on the website or sent via Email or IM.
According to F-Secure, a software vendor, all versions of Windows operating systems suffer from this vulnerability, but Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 operating systems face more risks.
The patch has been successfully developed by Microsoft and is in beta to be released next week.
Although Microsoft admits the vulnerability is being exploited aggressively, software developers say the attack level is not wide. Antivirus software also blocks most attacks through updated files, allowing security software to recognize infected files before it is harmful.
