Mysterious headless crocodile in 3,400 year old burial area

Two headless crocodiles are found in a population of 12 new graves along with a series of human remains, many sheep and goats with dots on the skull and a cat.

Swedish archaeologists have discovered 12 mysterious tombs while excavating the ancient graveyard at Gebel el – Silsila, southern Egypt.

John Ward, assistant project manager Gebel el Silsila, said that most of the remains in the grave are likely to belong to mining workers. Their bodies were covered with a linen cloth. Sheep or goats in graves can be sacrificial items.

Researchers are not yet clear whether crocodiles are not headed in graves for certain purposes or they just accidentally drifted to the grave.

Crocodile is considered an important animal in ancient Egyptian beliefs. They symbolize the god Sobek, the head of the crocodile that governs the Nile.

Cats also have their own graves. Other artifacts found by archaeologists like amulets, necklaces, and ceramic pieces."The discovery is extraordinary. Becoming the first to find the tomb is the dream of all archaeologists, especially in Egypt , " Ward said.
