Scientists at a leading scientific conference in St Louis, USA, warn new diseases are emerging with record high frequencies. The meeting of the Association for the Advancement of America assesses humanity almost has to deal with a new disease every year. This means organizations and governments must make more efforts to control disease.

Bird flu is a new disease that causes global alarm (Photo: BBC) Most of these diseases are infectious diseases, such as avian flu and HIV / AIDS; and diseases derived from animals.

"The concentration of these disease genes has been going on for centuries and humans have had to deal with diseases like tuberculosis, malaria and measles," said Professor Mark Woodhouse, a University epidemiologist. General Edinburgh, England said. "However, the situation is now more frequent."

Professor Woodhouse has collected more than 1,400 different types of diseases in humans and every year scientists discover a new kind of two.

Many types may have existed for a long time and have only been identified.

Some other emerging types may be completely new, such as HIV, the SARS virus or the mad cow disease virus.

Change the living environment

The difference according to researchers is how humans interact with animals in their habitats.

Changes in land use, such as deforestation, can lead to new epidemics; or changes in agriculture and livestock.

Other important factors include global travel, commercial situation and hospital admission from other places.

Now public health experts need to put more effort into controlling the spread of new diseases.

Professor Woodhouse told the BBC he wanted to change statements like the US Department of Health once said, that they "won the disease."

"The diseases change to cope with human quarantine forms. We need to run fast to stay in the same state . "

Woodhouse also added that the need to strengthen disease monitoring, which has been assessed as weak in many parts of the world.
