Hong Kong's air pollution hit a dangerous level in the midst of controversy that erupted between the region and China over its plan to cut greenhouse gas emissions to improve pollution in Hong Kong.

The air pollution index across Hong Kong has exceeded the 100-mold danger threshold that health authorities warned people to have respiratory disease and heart disease at home.

The most polluted area is the central business district, the new city of Yuen Long in the New Territories district.

Hong Kong has long been a place of frequent inhalation of dust and smoke from neighboring areas in southern China. In addition, emissions from vehicles and coal-fired power plants in Hong Kong also contribute to the air pollution. Last year, more than 1/3 of the days of the year, people could not admire the beauty of the city pier because of the smoke.

The more serious problem caused a group of businesses to raise a warning that the unclean air would prevent investment in Hong Kong.

In response to this situation, the Chinese government pledged to solve the problem and yesterday announced the start of implementing the emission reduction program with Guangdong Province.
