Red grapefruit juice added the most

Red grapefruit juice provides more nutrients per calorie unit than any other pure fruit juice. A new study of popular American fruit juices has shown that.

Gail Rampersaud, author of the Institute of Food Science and Agriculture at the University of Florida, USA, said red grapefruit juice is an excellent source of vitamin C that delivers the necessary amount throughout the day in a single 29.5-ml cup.

"It also provides potassium, folate, vitamin B and magnesium, as well as some carotenoids that can be converted into vitamin A in the body." Carotenoids are pigments for fruits and vegetables. They also help prevent cancer and other diseases.

In the study, Rampersaud focused on the common types of pure juices. Tomato juice is excluded because it is considered vegetable juice. Pomegranate, blueberry, cherries and some fruits are often mixed with other fruits, so they are also excluded.

Rampersaud explains that citrus water ranks high because of its higher nutrient content than other juices and low calorie content.
