Reduce 80% of treatment time for cancer patients

Recently Siemens Health has introduced a new method to shorten 80% of cancer treatment time. Instead of having to treat 30 times within 6 weeks, with this new method, the patient only needs 10 treatments or less.

Known as Multiple-X, this new method helps to use a dose rate of up to 2,000 MU / min instead of 50 to 500 MU. High dose rate helps increase radiation efficiency and reduce treatment time.

This new feature is especially beneficial for patients who undergo radiotherapy - a highly accurate radiotherapy, whereby patients will be treated within 60 minutes. Radiation therapy includes the use of ionizing radiation, energy particles and X-rays for radiation therapy.

When radiation strikes the tumor, the gene is adjusted and the tumor cells do not continue to divide and die. In contrast, healthy cells will be less affected and regenerated faster because of biochemical adjustment functions that work effectively.

To ensure that the healthy tissue is least affected, the multi-leaf collimator will precisely adjust the radiation to match the size and shape of the tumor. The flat filter plate uniformly distributes energy through the diameter of the beam.

However, these flat filters are not necessary for intensity modulation radiation (IMRT), whereby the tumor is irradiated from different directions in an arc. The removal of this flat filter plate allows for a wider energy spectrum, with a high dose rate of up to 2,000 MU / min.

The tumor is irradiated with different energy levels depending on its location and size. However, Multiple-X technology provides flat energy for three-dimensional radiotherapy according to the shape of the tumor in the desired flat rays as with the wide treatment area from a single angle.

Multiple-X is a new feature on Siemens linear artiste acceleration device. This new method was introduced at the European Tumor Therapy Conference (ESTRO) this year.
