Saliva test helps diagnose HIV / AIDS
A research team from McGill University (Canada) has tested 450 450 Indians ' OraQuick HIV-1/2 ' method to diagnose HIV / AIDS by analyzing saliva.
To demonstrate the effectiveness of this new diagnostic method, research author Nitika Pai and colleagues compared the results of the test with the classic blood test results.
The researchers noted that the OraQuick HIV method 100% accurate during blood tests may give false positive results (99.7% accurate). The new method only needs to extract saliva in the mouth so it is easy to do and give results within 40 minutes, while a blood test requires waiting up to 2 weeks to inform the patient.
The OraQuick HIV-1/2 test method has just been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to carry out clinical studies.
