The researchers noted that the OraQuick HIV method 100% accurate during blood tests may give false positive results (99.7% accurate). The new method only needs to extract saliva in the mouth so it is easy to do and give results within 40 minutes, while a blood test requires waiting up to 2 weeks to inform the patient.

The OraQuick HIV-1/2 test method has just been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to carry out clinical studies.
