This method, also known as SODIS (solar water disinfection in plastic bottles), can eliminate up to 99.9% of bacteria and bacteria, achieving the same results as chlorine methods. .
Unfortunately, however, there is no reliable method for water that has reached a safe level.
Now, students at the University of Washington, USA, have created a simple and inexpensive device that can do this job.
The team made a simple device using parts from a key chain that could blink when exposed to light. When attached to a water bottle, it monitors the amount of light passing through the water. And the indicator light flashes when dirty particles are still obstructing the light and stop when the water is safe to drink.
This device can also touch when a full bottle of water is attached to it so it will not measure data when there is no water in the bottle.
According to Chin Jung Cheng students, Charlie Matlack, Penny Huang and Jacqueline Linnes, estimated the parts to create such a device cost about 3.4 USD (about 66,000 VND).
