Purple snails can't swim but live on the beach with homemade rafts from . their own saliva.
These beautiful purple snails experience a peaceful life on the sea by floating in the water on homemade rafts from their own saliva. That is the species Janthina janthina , a group of soft-bodied gastropods, widely known as the "sea snail".
They can secrete many layers of mucus bubbles that help them hang upside down and float in the ocean according to the waves. This small creature often lives in mild tropical waters, floating on the surface for many years. Because of the characteristics of living in large quantities right on the surface of the sea, it makes them extremely special among other pelvic species.
However, when sea snails mature, they can no longer swim and live completely on these saliva boats.
Purple snails live on "rafts" from their own saliva.
This snail possesses a shell with two opposite colors: dark purple at the base and light purple at the top. They are a typical male bivalve, when they are born male, and when they mature they become female. The female snail lays eggs right in the sponge raft until they develop into baby larvae.
Scientists have been conducting a series of research projects to find new features about the life of this beautiful little snail, this mystery.
